Ports Australia Calls for Government Intervention

Ports Australia calls on the Government to intervene in response to the industrial action between the MUA and DP World Australia.

Ports Australia CEO, Mike Gallacher, said after months of dispute between DP World and the MUA, it is clear this matter will not be resolved in a timely manner with the potential for further escalation.

All Ports around Australia are open and continuing to operate. Apart from DP World, other stevedores operating container terminals around the country are continuing to operate.

“This dispute is escalating at a time when there is ongoing fragility in the economy; businesses and farmers are doing their best to keep the doors open in the face of import and export delays,” Mr Gallacher said.

“The Australian Federal Government needs to intervene and bring everyone to the table to resolve this ongoing dispute in a timely and efficient manner for the continued prosperity of Australian businesses and communities.”

Ports Australia wants the best outcome for both parties and a resumption to regular operations at DP World terminals.
